APW - Illinois, Bunn Special, Grade 163 Elinvar, rare Type IIE marking, 23J 60 Hour, 16S, white gold-filled OF original Bunn Special Model 173 case, "Illinois Bunn Special 23 Jewel 60 Hour" marked Montgomery white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with blued Elinvar hairspring, rayed pattern nickel damascene, s#5421947. A strong example of the rarest variant of 23 jewel Elinvar Bunn Special, total production of this Grade 163 Type IIE is believed to be approximately 320 made per Michael Chamelin's Bunn Special book.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few small fine to micro-fine scratches, minuscule bit of finish loss to inner edge of barrel bridge near center jewel, some small specks of oxide to perimeter of larger winding wheel; dial with faint outer chapter hl at 11:30, small patched flake to the inner corner of the outer chapter above 7; fine hands, hour and minute with oxide around center; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows hardly any wear; glass crystal with short scratch near center.
